Southampton

We got up early as we gained one hour last night.  So we walked around deck 7 and watched us come into Southampton.  There are three other ships here.  Will find out who they are later.

We went to breakfast in the King's Court.  We found a table for 4 and sat down and we were joined by an older couple from England.  They have been on since Southampton for 15 nights.  They are getting off today.  He is retired from a family business which his children now run and she is retired nurse.  A charming couple.  Used to own a home in Punta Gorda but sold it.

We went up to deck 12 and found the indoor pool.  Will try it out later.  Now catching up with blog.

They are getting off the ship so we decided to get off around 9:30 and take the shuttle into the town.  Of course, we had to get in the long line of people getting off but the shuttle was still there, so we took it into town.  It lets you off right by a mall.  I had taken my computer with me so I could up load the pictures using Starbucks or such.  Well, we went to Starbucks and of course, after we ordered, we found out the internet was not working properly.  So we went into the mall and I stopped at an Apple store.  I had the guy teach me a few things and then I asked if I could use the internet.  He said sure.  So I uploaded the pictures really quick.

We walked about the town a bit looking for a wine store, but I think they drink beer here.  No good wines so we walked back to the shuttle stop and the bus was there.  Back on the ship but we had to go through security again.  This time was stricter than in Hamburg.  Made it through and back to the cabin.

Lunch in King's Court where I only had a salad.  Dad took his nap while I did cross stitch on the balcony.  They are testing the life boats so we have a good view.

Bob is walking the deck while I am blogging.  The following pictures are of the grand lobby.  A beautiful flower arrangement in the center.  Smells great.

These are along the walls of the center stairway.  The above one is of South America.

Not sure what these are.  But they line the wide hall way.  The hallway is very wide.

The new folks must attend the muster drill but since we went in Hamburg, we do not have to go again.

Dinner is at 6pm which is a bit early but then we get to listen to the Strings or tonight there is a Harpist. The Strings are still playing but they move them around and we are still getting used to this ship.

Will post now  as I do not think much more is going to happen today.  Tomorrow is the first of 6 sea days.  There might not be much to tell but I will try and keep in interesting.

  1. Please begin to try the jams - you may have to ask for the apricot (they pronouce it "A-pre-cot"). Also, make sure you join the morning water aerobics class, and if there is any sea at all, the waves in the pool are interesting to negotiate as you are doing your exercises. Try all the different types of teas - the piece de resistance of a Cunard ship - I got to love the Assam tea.

Back in JAX and still screwed up on time.

  2. Can't wait to see a picture of you all at a table full of tuxedoed Brits and Bob in his sport coat!
Get ready for the queues - add Germans to Brits and you will have to fight for your place.
