Bratislava Revisit

Okay, so we are here again in Bratislava.  So we had breakfast with two sisters from Canada.   Then Trink and John joined us.  We decided to self tour.

We walked up to the old town and saw some of the same sites we saw before and some new ones.

We loved watching these school kids out on a field trip.  Reminded us of our grandkiddos at home.

Bratislava does not have a hop on hop off bus.  This is their little train that will take you around the old town.

We did not see this gentleman on our first outing.

So we love to kid around.

These two statues were right next to one another.  Art comes in all forms.

This was in a square outside of the church that follows.

The outside of this church is unremarkable.  But the inside was beautiful.  It is the Franciscan Temple built in 1297.  It is the oldest church in the Old Town.  This is where the newly crowned kings knighted selected noblemen as Knights of the Golden Spur.

The pulpit of the church.

We continued our walk and left the old town and came across this church.  This is the Church of St. John of Matha (Trinitarians).  It was finished in 1725.  We were not able to get inside.

Another view of the castle.  We elected not to walk up to the castle.

Outside of old town they still use these trolleys.

This is part of the wall around the old town.  But what we took the picture of is the bridge.

The old town is down hill from the new part of the city.

We think this was one of the gates into the old town.  Now it is hanging where it used to be.  We walked out of the old town and started looking for the blue church.

We finally found it.  It is St. Elizabeth's Church.  It was built between 1909 - 1913.  It is one of the most beautiful churches in the city.  It uses Art-Nouveau style.

Most local people just refer to it as the Blue Church.  You cannot walk inside but the doors are open.  They use an iron gate that you can see through but not enter the church completely.

The ceiling of the church.

And this mosaic is over the front door.

We continued to walk to the river in order to get back to the ship on time.  We passed this building on our way.

We do not know what building this is but the brick work is wonderful.

We returned to the ship in time for lunch.  We sat with Marilyn and Sherry from Wisconsin.  Then to the cabin for a nap for Bob and I went and got my hair cut.  Cost 22 euros.  Not bad and it looks okay.

After the nap we enjoyed the sailing into Vienna.  They had a past passenger gathering and at first, Bob and I were the only ones to attend.  Then another lady, Fee, came and then her husband finally arrived. He is Carl.  They are from Maryland.  She is a travel agent who brings a group on board.  They do two escorted trips a year.  One on Carnival and one on the river.  I will say, when there are several groups on board it changes the dynamics of the trip.  You do not meet as many people as they stick together.  Plus, the groups tend to take over the dining room.

Dinner with John, Trink, Marilyn and Sherry.  Then after dinner the group was going to a wine tasting and music affair.  We opted not to go.  We already had had enough wine, thank you very much.

Back to the cabin to read and lights out.
