Budapest by Bob

These are some of the great pictures Bob took on our tour of Budapest.

As sailed into the city, we noticed this flag.  I think that the flag of Hungary while under Communism, had a seal in the middle.  When they got their freedom, they removed the seal so that now the flag is a red stripe, a white stripe and a green stripe.  No seal.  So instead of buying another large flag, they cut the seal out.

Parliament as we rode in.

It is such a beautiful building.

Another church in the city.  Will need to find out which one when we explore today.

This is a shoe memorial.  During the Hungarian Uprising, people were stood on the waterfront and shot.  So the shoes represent all of those people.

Matthias Church in the distance.

The Chain Bridge.

This is the statue of Saint Gerard.

These homes are owned by the historical society.  People may rent them but never own them.

This is King Matthias on his horse.

Bob thought Aiden would like this gargoyle.

Some more of the gargoyles on Matthias Church.

You can get your picture taken with this falcon.

This is the entrance to a Vajdahunyad Castle.  Officially it is called "Historical Architectural Ensemble".  It is a 21 part castle.  The designer was commissioned to present a variety of Hungarian architectural styles.

The chapel inside the castle.  Weddings are held here but you need to reserve at least one year in advance.

This is a statue of the architect, Ignac Alpar with a special visitor.

Leaving the castle.  It turned out to be a beautiful day.  Warm and sunny.
