I took my new camera to Melk Abbey and these are some of my pictures. A lot are repeats but I used the zoom to get close to some of the sites.
These are close ups of the paintings on the building outside the courtyard. The blue and red paintings show the four virtues of life.
Room 2 contains some of the followings. First you see a Ulrich's Cup. The second picture explains the cup.
The following is a Portable Altar. It is the oldest treasure belonging to the Abbey. Priests travelling could use the portable altar to celebrate the mass. The reliefs in walrus tusk on the lid show the Lamb of God, the Hand of God, the symbols for the four evangelists, four angles and two male saints. The ivory reliefs on the sides of the case show scenes for the life of Christ.
Room 4 contains several different Chalices. This is just one of them.
The following pictures are all of the ceiling in the marble room or dining room. The ceiling is flat but painted to make it look like it is curved.
This is the way the eye sees the ceiling. But below, I have zoomed in on the baby in the center.
Zoomed in on baby.
These columns are slanted.
The corner of the ceiling.
The following is a panoramic picture of the view from the outside of the church.
Melk from the hills.
This is the front of the church. Under the oval window is the following inscription.
The view of the river from the front of the church. You can see a boat in the distance.
And now we know it is a Uniworld boat.
Another view of the interior of the church.
After we left the Abbey, we went to the garden. Here is a fish, looking at me, or so it seems.
And all along the path, there are these sculptors of ravens. Here is a family of ravens.
Hope you enjoyed my pictures. I am still learning how to use this camera.
