We returned to our cabin and packed up our stuff. They will take our luggage up to the new cabin and carry the clothes on the hangers. They came around 9:45 and we were all settled in 312 by 10am.
We then decided to tour this city on our own. We headed to St. Stephen's Basilica. It was quite a walk. This is the largest church in Budapest. It was started by Jozsef Hild in 1851 and finished by Milkos Ybl in 1905. By the time of its completion, its original neoclassical style had been changed into Eclectic.
The following pictures are of St. Stephen's Basilica. What a wonderful place.
The exterior.
And then you enter a wonderful space.
One does not know where to look. Everything is just awesome.
The above explains about the right hand.
On our walk back we stopped at a small church. Earlier in the day they were having a service in so we did not want to disturb them. This time they were cleaning but we were able to get in and take some pictures.
We walked over to the Great Synagogue. This monumental place of worship was built in Byzantine Moorish style with ceramic decorations and onion domes by Lajos Forster between 1854 and 1859. We did not go into the synagogue as there was a line and it cost money.
We stopped at Europa Cafe for lunch. This was a typical cafe. Small but good food. I had a Hungarian pancake filled with chicken which was too big for me to finish. Bob had fish soup and the rest of my pancake.
We walked down the shopping street and found a store to restock our bar and then one for some gifts.
Then we walked to the Central Market Hall but will visit that tomorrow.
Back to the boat where we got our new keys for the cabin and took our nap.
Tonight is muster drill and Captain's Welcome. All new people to meet. The last cruise was so good we hope this one is also.
We sat with John and Trink from Jacksonville and then Bob and Brenda from Atlanta. We also had dinner with them. Seems we are going to have this table every night.
Tonight we are sailing around Budapest like we did last night. No more pictures as the scene is the same. To the cabin and bed.
