Two Days Sailing the Chilean Fjords

Tempo Glacier
Both February 1 and 2 will be spent sailing around the fjords of Chile.  We will be in protected waters so the sailing will be smooth.  But until we get inside, rough waters.  Lots of pitching and rolling during the night.  This actually helps me sleep.  Sort of like rocking a big baby.  But it is difficult to walk.  Need to hold on so you don't fall.

We had breakfast in La Veranda.  I finally found out how to get blueberries.  You just need to ask.  They keep them behind the counter.  I guess it is because some people don't know how to have just a little.  Because of the motion of the ship, we had slept in so breakfast was later then usual.  I did not go to the needlepoint gathering in the morning but worked on my projects in the cabin.

The morning was spent sail through the fjords.  The fjords are valleys carved out by the glaciers and filled in with water.  At any rate, they are beautiful.

Yesterday we sailed up to the Tempo Glacier.  We had to wait a bit for the Silversea Spirit to leave.  Only one ship at a time can fit in to view the glacier.

Terry Breen gave a commentary on the glacier and any animals or birds we might see.  She said she saw a dolphin but we did not so again, I will take her word for it.

Tradition says you should use some glacier ice in your drinks.  So we sent out a small boat to get some ice for the Captain's Party.  The three guys set out and the first chunk of ice they tried to drag but lost it on the way back so set out once more and this time was able to get it onboard.

We did not go to the Captain's Party as our dinner reservations were at 6:30 and Bob was still getting ready for dinner due to taking lots of pictures of the glacier.

Dinner was in Signatures.  I am not sure but will ask how we can get a table for 23 at any time other than 6:30.  When we eat at that early hour, we are in bed by 9pm.  But dinner was good.  I had a spinach and mushroom pasta which was great.  Bob had the scallop dish which he said was good.  We can't complain about the food.  Still trying not to gain weight but it is a struggle.

Through the night the ship rocked and rolled.  Bob got up early to check to see if the pool was open.  It was not and he said the water was cold.  I will not be swimming in cold water.  I think they heat it once it is open.  So it might take a while so we will swim later.

Today is the 2nd of February and the birthday of Kyrstin, my granddaughter.  Today she is 14 years old.  Happy Birthday Kyrstin.  We are up early but breakfast does not open until 7:30 so I am catching up with my computer and Bob is doing the pictures from yesterday.

Breakfast in La Veranda.  Not many people up today.  Back to the cabin and Captain announced we will have a medical evacuation by helicopter.  So he asked us to stay off deck 11 and 12 while the evacuation takes place.  More about this later.
