Buenos Aires, Argentina

Sunday is the first of three days that we will be in Buenos Aires.  We do not have a shore excursion today so since it is Sunday, will wait until about 11 am to go into the city.  Bob was up early (5am) so he started the wash I had set out for him.  This time he got it right.  I was up in time to get the clothes out of the dryer.  Since we gained the hour during the night, we are awake early.

We had breakfast on the aft deck of La Veranda.  I do not think they open this area up at the same time as the indoor space.  The managers came outside and offered us coffee, etc.  While the regular staff persons worked at the clearing area.  Did not offer any service until 7:30.  Not sure why this is the way.  At any rate, being Sunday, Bob had his caviar but no champagne.  Too early to start drinking.  And then he had eggs Benedict.  I had Special K and banana.  Yesterday, Ronalyn brought us a scale so now we can keep track of any weight gains or losses.

We went to the Coffee Connection while she made up the cabin.  We then returned to the cabin and went up to the pool to do one hour of water exercises.  Had the pool mostly to ourselves the entire time.  Most everyone is off the ship.  We will go out later today.  Bob has gone off to take pictures of the ship with the people off.

Beautiful Gate

9 of July Avenue
We had a light lunch and then Bob took his nap and I read on the balcony.  We took the shuttle to downtown and walked for about two hours.  Since it was Sunday, many of the stores were closed.  We walked up to the famous 9 of July avenue and then to Florida Street.  This is where most of the shops are located and it is people only.  No cars.  We were questioned by two gentlemen from Rio who are getting on our ship tomorrow.  They are jewelry sales men and offer free transportation to their shop to buy.  We are not interested.  We stopped at the Cathedral where the tomb of Jose de San Martin, Argentina's most recered historical figure, is located.  They have two guard at the entrance all the time.

Top picture is of the tomb of San Martin, middle one of the inside of Cathedral, and last is of altar of Cathedral.

We walked back to the Marriott and took the shuttle back to the ship.  There were two other ships here in port.  The Costa Magica and the Silversea Spirit.  They both left about 6pm.

We dressed for dinner and had our cocktails in Mariner Lounge.  They opened the Compass Rose early for those people going to the Tango Show.  We met up with Stan and had him join us for dinner.  Stan is a retired pharmacist living in Arizona.  He had taken many world cruises and has done this one two other times.  He was not feeling well, so left the table.  We finished out dinner and then headed to the cabin to read and lights out.

I will post this now but add additional pictures at a later date.  I added more pictures to the Montevideo entry so check it out.
