Amsterdam, Netherland - Disembarkation Updated 4/22/13

Today is the end of this cruise.  Anne, Cory, Frank and Judy had a flight at 9am so they left the ship at about 6am.  We said our good byes last night after dinner.  The cruise was so much fun because of the company.  We promised we would get together more often and not wait another 50+ years.  We have seen each other more ofter than that but not all six of us at one time.

We had breakfast and then returned to our cabin to pack.  This is a bit different than an ocean cruise.  No setting the luggage out the night before.  So we were able to pack at our pace.  We were ready to go at 8:30 so we set out luggage out and went up to the lounge to wait a while before we left the boat as we knew the hotel would not be ready for us.  While we were in the lounge, Bob got worried about our luggage so he went and found that his roll aboard and my large gray suitcase were missing.  Not with the other two bags so he went looking for them.  He found them out on the sidewalk by where the buses were taking people to the airport.  He brought his small bag back and we decided we would get a taxi and head to the hotel.  Bob went to get my gray bag and a lady was just putting it on a bus to the airport.  We caught it just in time.  That was close.  Erna, one of the program managers, said she was sorry for the mix up.  The boat uses all of the help with the luggage.  I guess one of them just put it in the wrong pile.  Good thing Bob was worried or my bag would be sitting at the airport.

Just another view of our boat.  There were at least ten different river boat docked here and to say the luggage was a mess is an understatement.

The taxi took us to the hotel and as we thought, the room would not be ready until 2pm.  We checked our luggage and took a walk around the square.  Stopped for tea and then continued walking.  This time in the red light district there were ladies in the windows.  What a way to make a living!  The ladies have to rent the window for about 100 to 150 euros a day.  And the least amount they charge for a quirky is 50 euros.  Figure it out for yourselves.

A typical street with outdoor cafes.

Just like the canal boat we took the other day.

A great view of one of the canals.

More Amsterdam streets.

Most of the people do not own cars so they rent these by the hour if needed.

Had lunch at the Park Plaza Brasserie.  Bob had a tuna salad (not tuna salad like home) and I had a cheeseburger with fries.  These people over in this part of the world us mayo with their fries.  Not me.  It was too much so Bob finished my burger and we left most of the fries.

Now we are sitting in the lobby waiting for our hotel room to be ready.  At least they have free internet.  We leave here in the morning and will leave two bags here so we do not have to drag the big ones on the train.  We are heading to Ghent, Belgium.

During our walk we stopped for tea at an outdoor cafe.

On April 30, 2013 the Queen is stepping down and her son will become the King.  This is the Royal Palace where it will take place.

The square where we had tea.  Called Dam Square.

Once we get to our room we will probably take a nap as we were up earlier that usual.  And then back out to explore this city.  Will update later.  Bob did take a few pictures so will add them then.

We finally were assigned a room and headed up.  We had a vodka and both of us took a nap.  I slept like a log.  I guess I was very tired.

After our nap we headed to the train station to buy our tickets for tomorrow.  While in line, we talked with two young girls from Liverpool.  They were heading home.  By the time it was our turn, I guess some of the people behind us were tired of waiting.  Someone threw water on me.  Got me wet in the back.   At least it was water.  I did not see who did it.  We were not able to charge our tickets as our credit cards do not contain a security chip.  So we need to pay for stuff like that with cash.  The USA credit card companies need to get it together like the rest of the world.

We walked about town for a while and then stopped at a small pizza shop for a pizza and beer.  Spoke with two ladies from San Diego.  Then we walked back to the hotel the long way.  This city is filled with shops that sell sex toys.  Wow.  An eye opening for me.

Now watching TV before we turn in.
