Ushuaia, Argentina

Ushuaia upon arrival

Sunday morning we arrived in Ushuaia, Argentina for our first  stop in Argentina.  The weather was rainy and cold so we elected to stay on the ship until the weather cleared.  And it being Sunday, the shops will probably not open early.

We went for a walk through the city.   Ushuaia is the world's southernmost city.  Port William in Chile is probably more southern but is only a town so they don't count it.  The weather continued with rain off and on so we headed out.  We had cancelled our shore excursion as it was another bus ride but that could have been a mistake.  At any rate, we walked to town and stopped at a local leather shop where Bob bought a new belt.
Meat cooking
Local beer
We stopped for lunch at a restaurant that the leather ladies recommended.  In Argentina they cook the meats over and open fire.  We decided to order the king crab which was excellent.  And of course, the local beer.  While there, three people behind us asked where we were from.  They said we had an accent that did not sound like Florida.  I explained we were from the Philadelphia area.  Then another couple said they were getting on the Silversea Spirit in Buenos Aries.  They were on the Mariner last year.

It was cold
We continued our walk back to the ship

  1. Hi Guys:

Sounds like you are having a good time. Lots of Del Borrello's in Argentina (Buenos Aires)They are from my mother in law's side of the family, her Uncle left Italy and settled in BA. Nick also said his granfather's sister and brother went there. So if you run into any Del Borrellos or Marchesanis say HI
