Parati, Brazil

Again we are at anchor here in Brazil.  There are lots of island off the coast of Brazil.  Paraty is a preserved Portuguese colonial town with a population of about 36,000.  It is located on the Costa Verde (Green Coast) which is a green corridor that runs along the coastline of the state of Rio de Janeiro.  It has become a popular tourist area in recent years.

We got up early and headed to the pool for one hour.  Then dressed for breakfast in La Veranda.  We sat on the aft deck and looked at the beautiful vista.  This is a beautiful part of the world.  Our tour gathered at 8:30 am.  We took the Parati Islands by Schooner.  There was a bit of wait as the boat had to change sides of our ship.  And you cannot call it a schooner.  No sails.  Really a long motor boat.  But anyway,  we got on our boat and sailed out to one of the islands to swim.  They made two stops.  The first stop was just swimming and the second stop you could go to the beach if you wanted.  You could swim there or take the dingy.  Bob and I just swam for the entire time.  Good exercise.

They also stopped just for a bit to see if the local monkeys would make an appearance.  They did not.  There are only about five monkeys left in the area.

Back to the ship where we changed and then up to La Veranda for lunch.  Now is nap time.

Afternoon same as always.  Needlepoint, tea and trivia.  We don't do that well but we have lots of fun.

Dressed for dinner and went to the show before dinner.  Tonight was the opera singer from Poland that gave us the private show a few days ago.  Tonight was just the singer.  She announced her son would play the violin for us and when he came on stage, the music started and he either forgot his note or hit a wrong note, but he left the stage and could be heard crying.  It was a shame.  At any rate, she came back and finished her set but you could tell she was upset.  She has a wonderful voice.  And sang two of my favorite songs ending with "Time to Say Goodbye".

Dinner in Compass Rose and saw Artie Johnson at a nearby table.  Most of you readers will probably not remember Artie Johnson but he starred in Laugh In.  Then to the cabin and bed.
