Townsville, Australia in Pictures

Yesterday we were in Townsville.  Here are some of the pictures taken while we were there.

Our tour started with a ride up to Castle Rock.  The figure was painted by some college students.

The view from the top of the rock.

Another view.

Lots of tennis courts here in Townsville.

Looking down on the town.

Our first visitors when we entered Billabong Sanctuary.  Do not know the name of these ducks.

Time for a swim.

A white cockatoo nibbling on the bark of the tree.

This is a black cockatoo.  Actually a red tail cockatoo..

Our new best friend.

These guys hop right up to you.  Some people had seeds to feed them but we did not have any.

Bob likes to get up close and personal.

Joey looking for a drink and momma could care less.

Hard for me to get down to their level.

This koala is eating a fresh leaf.  Must be lunch time.

Notice that the koala has two thumbs.  This aids them in holding onto the trees.

Today we found the koalas more awake.

Another Cassowary.  Bob says it is a very nasty bird.

They had several different shows.  This is a boa constrictor.  We did not try and hold either snakes they were showing but Bob did hold the crocodile.

This is a hairy nosed Wombat.  Very cuddly.

This is a smooth nosed Wombat.  The fir is like wire.  Not smooth like the koala.

And Bob with his large crocodile.

It was a good time at the sanctuary.  But I think we have had our fill of the animals.
