Darwin, Australia - Updated

Tuesday we docked in Darwin after three sea days.  During the sea days the staff tries to keep us busy with various events.  Bob and I tend to do the same things everyday.  Needlepoint, swimming, eating, napping, and the like.  We did go to the show the other night and it was terrific.  Cindy and Stephan were wonderful.

Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory.  It has a population of around 120,000 persons.  It had to be rebuilt twice, once after the Japanese air raids during World War II and then again after being completely devastated by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.  So the city is now one of Australia's most modern capitals.

Our tour took us to the Wildlife Park.  Another zoo like park but a little different.  They had an under water walk through aquarium and a bird show.  Pictures will be inserted later as Bob is not finished editing them.

This was in the aquarium.  We did see turtles, fish, crocs, etc.

Not sure what type of fish this is.  But he was pretty.

This is the only large croco we saw. He continues on the next picture.

The tail end of the croco.

This is a saw fish. I find them interesting.  But I don't want to meet one in the ocean.

At the bird show, these were two of the parrots that flew our way.

And the cockatoo flew over our heads.  Beautiful.

Hiding in the tree,  This is a barn owl.  When they fly, you cannot hear them.

A close up of the barn owl.  A beautiful bird.

The barn owl in flight.

This is another owl that was in the show.'

An eagle of some type.  Notice that the feathers do not go all the way down the legs.  This is so when they hit the water, they can catch the fish and not drown.

this is a brown winged crane.  When they walk, their knees go backwards.

An osprey, we have these in Florida.

And this is the dingo.  A wild dog in Australia.

And a baby croc.  This guy is about 18 months old.  Cute.

While we were getting ready to leave, one of the ladies, who was wearing long pants, had lots of blood on her pants.  Leaches.  Both she and her husband were bitten by leaches.  I was not a fan.  But we were not bothered by them.

We returned to the ship but a little later than expected so we missed the bridge tour.  Might be able to do it on one of the other legs.

So we missed lunch but that was okay.   Need to miss a meal now and then.

Up to the Observation Lounge for our cocktails.  We were scheduled to have dinner with Bob and Marilyn and the two singers from the show.  But the female singer cancelled so it was just the four of us.  We ate upstairs in La Veranda as it was French Bistro night.  Food was excellent.  I like it up there.  A little different from Compass Rose but both of the venues are good.

Back to the suite (show was Liars Club) and I finished "Enough Said".  Not such a great movie.  Lights out and bed.

Will update with pictures later.
