Salalah, Oman

On Thursday May 1st we docked in Salalah, Oman.  On Tuesday we were back in Muscat, Oman but this time we decided not to get off the ship.  We have now been to Muscat twice and I think we have seen most of what there is to see and Bob is not a shopper.  So we swam in the morning and just hung around the ship.

Wednesday was a sea day and like all the others, swimming, eating, needlepoint, etc.

So on Thursday, we docked in Salalah, Oman.  The day started like most of the others with an early morning swim.  Then breakfast in La Veranda and ready for out tour.  Today we are doing "Arabian Heritage".  This is really a bus tour and let me tell you, there is not much to see here in Salalah.

These are pipes here at the dock.

And a police boat with a helicopter landing spot on the back.

We drove for about one hour out to see Bin Ali's tomb.

In about 1200AD this Bin Ali came to this area and taught the local people about Islam.  So they buried him in this special tomb.

And this is the cemetery for the rest of the folks.

Next stop was to the city ruins of Samhuram.

Not too much to see here.

Some camels along the banks and some herons.

They say this is frankincense.

Then a drive to Taqa Castle.  Here I had to spend the rest of the Oman money we had.  Happy to do it but not much to pick from in this town.

Bob walked up to the castle.

A nice view of the beach area.

Finally we stopped at a fruit stall to sample the coconut water.  As I have tired it before, I did not partake.

Lots of bananas.

Then back to the pier and up to La Veranda for a quick lunch.  Then a short nap and then needlepoint and tea and trivia.

Dressed for dinner and had a nice table for three with Mal Myers.  He got on the ship in November.  I can't imagine.

Then back to the cabin to watch "The Wolf Of Wall Street".   Lots of four letter words, sex and nudity. Oh well.
