Up for breakfast. Last night I talked with Katie via Viber and found out they have a contract on their house. Things are moving very fast for them. I am happy and sad at the same time. But they will only be about 2 hours away, so it could have been worse.
Breakfast with the gang. I finally tried a Belgium Waffle. More sweet that we have a home but quite good. Then back to the room. I decided to pay for internet for the day and glad I did. The pictures loaded so fast. Bob and I are on our own today. The rest of the group is taking a bus tour of Ghent and we are going to go there after the river so decided to stay back in Brussels. But it is raining again so need to do something dry.
We decided it was not raining that hard so we walked back down town. Brussels itself is on two levels. The hotel is on the upper level and the Grand Place is on the lower level. We walked to the elevator which takes you to the lower level and then continued to Place de la Chapelle Kapeliemarkt but it was closed up tighter than a drum. Could not get in. So we continued our walk to Cathedrale Kathedraal. This is the Cathedral of Saints Michel and Gudele.
The first church was built in 1047 on the site of one of the chapels. In 1226 the work begain and it took two and a half centuries to complete. So the inside shows several architectural styles. This is a beautiful church. We walked all over the inside and also got to listen to a singer. A nice experience.
As we continued the walk we came across this modern statue and Bob just had to have his picture taken with it.
Not sure what is represents but there it is in the center of Brussels.
We then continued to hunt for this restaurant I had heard about. When we found it, we found it closed. They are looking for a new chef. Oh well. So we had lunch at another place and of course, we over ate. Took a taxi back to the hotel where we had to part the young girls waiting to see Justin Beiber. Now they have police at the entrance to the hotel and a barrier to keep the girls back.
We spent one hour on our balcony waiting for the Beiber to come out and get into his car to take him to his show. Finally we left as we had dinner reservations. It is fun to watch the young girls trying to sneak in and catch sight of Justin. I am sure I would not want to live like that. He basically is a prisoner and cannot go out for food etc. Not the way to have to live.
Tonight we are eating in a place the hotel has arranged for us. Will tell you about it later. Was at a very nice small restaurant. Part French and part Belgium food. Most of us had the wild sea bass which was the catch of the day. Frank had rabbit and Cory had a port dish. I think we all liked the food. Skipped desserts. Walked back to the hotel. Now packing up our luggage and getting ready for the next leg. River cruise round trip Amsterdam. But I do not think we will see many tulips since it has been so cold in this part of the world. Oh well.
