Amsterdam, Netherland

We arrived in Amsterdam about 8 am.  We were up and ate breakfast with the gang.  In Amsterdam lots of these river boats start here.  So today we saw about six different boats docked near us.

Our day started with a canal tour that took us by the Anne Frank house where there was a long line of people waiting to get in.  We also saw lots of different homes of the wealthy of that period.  And of course, house boats of all shapes and sizes.  The canal tour ended at a diamond factory and store.  We opted not to do the tour and decided to walk to the hotel where we were going to stay at the beginning of the next leg to see if we could store some of our luggage.  They said of course.  Then we walked back to the boat.  Not a bad walk but I do not think we will be able to do it with all our luggage.

We had lunch with Richard and Ellen from Illinois and Martha Ann and Walt from North Carolina.  Good lunch and great conversation.

Our afternoon included a tour of the Rijs Museum.  We only were able to see the collection of Rembrandt but that was wonderful.  The museum has been closed for renovations for 10 years.  So it was very crowded to say the least.  But we managed to see most of what we came for.  Need to do it on your own in the future.

The ride back to the boat was interesting.  Rush hour in Amsterdam.  By the time we finally got back to the ship, it was time for cocktails with the Captain.   Dinner was the Captain's Farewell Dinner with lobster and filet.   And of course, a Baked Alaska parade.  I thought we were done with them but I guess the river boats have not gotten the memo.

After dinner we went up to the lounge and listened to a trio that was wonderful.  One violin, one guitar, and one cello.  All from Eastern Europe.   And they all played without music.  Classical music.  Excellent.

To the cabin and lights out.
