The weather continued to be sunny but very windy. We both attended the lecture which was given by Ambassador Edward Peck. He spoke on the Shock of other cultures. Just okay but sort of makes you think. They then had a reception for the passengers who are doing the entire trip where we were given a pin to wear and of course, cocktails. We met the Captain, the General Manager and the Cruise Director as well as several other officers and staff. I sat next to a lady from Boca. She has done this trip about three other times with her husband but he passed away last year and so this time she is alone. He played the cello in New York but retired to Boca and Cape Cod. She had 6 children and her one son and family is joining her on the first leg.
We had lunch at the Compass Rose where we tried to eat healthy by ordering the Canyon Spa choices. All very good. After lunch we napped (the result of the cocktail party and wine at lunch). I attended the needlepoint group in the afternoon and stayed and enjoyed a cup of tea but no cheesecake. Met three other ladies two of whom are doing the entire trip.
Upon returning to the cabin, Bob told me the water in the pool was warm so up we went to exercise for 30 minutes. We are out of practice so easing into it. The hot tub was fairly hot and I got a little light headed upon leaving it. Did it too fast but it was so windy that I was cold and raced to get to my towel. Will take it slower in the future.
At 5:45 pm they had the block party. This is where you take a glass from your cabin and stand outside in the hall and greet your neighbors. The cabin stewards then pour wine and the Captain, General Manager, and Cruise Director then race around and shake hands with everyone. Our neighbors live in Chicago and travel during the winter when possible. We met several others along with one of the dancers. She is 20 years old from England.
Dinner was in the Compass Rose which is the main dining room. We again had a nice table for two. Food continues to be great. We skipped dessert and headed back to the cabin where we watched the first half of the New Orleans/Detroit game. Then lights out. We lose one hour during the night.
