Quebec

Last night we went up to the observation room to watch our sail away.  We sat with Steve and Linda from Lake Tahoe.  They were on the Voyager last year in Australia and the ship had some problems so they were refunded part of the cost and able to book another cruise.  So they picked this one.

Dinner in Compass Rose.  We were not able to get a table for two so we sat with June and Howard from St. Louis and Naples, Florida.  Had an interesting evening.  Ended up closing the dining room.  I had a goat and apple tart and then a lobster salad.  All very good.  And fresh fruit for dessert.  Bob had the shrimp cocktail, a caesar salad and the sea bass.

We returned to the suite and got ready for bed.  Read for a bit and then lights out.

This morning we are in Quebec.  The weather is cold and cloudy.  We decided to cancel our walking tour for this morning and will wait till the afternoon and hope it warms up.  The pool looks heated so maybe will swim later this morning.

We have lots of ship board credit, so we sent out laundry this morning trying to spend it.

Bob did swim in the morning but I did not.  He said the water was warm but the air cold so his head stayed cold.  Then he took a hot tub to warm up.

The sun came out so we got some pictures from the ship.

This is the famousFairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.  It stands high on a bluff in the heart of Old Quebec.
It was built on the site that was once occupied by Fort Saint-Louis and can be seen for miles around.  Built at the end of the 19th century for the Canadian Pacific Railway, part of its history includes the Quebec Conference in 1943, at which Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill discussed strategies for World War II.

This is another view of Quebec from the ship.

Quebec is part up and part down.  You can take a funicular up or walk up many stairs.

The top of the hill is the La Citadelle.  This is part of the fortifications of Old Quebec.  Today the Citadel is headquarters to the 22nd Canadian Regiment, which was formed at the beginning of WWI.

Tonight is the Captain's Party but we are planning on skipping it and just having a cocktail in one of the lounges.

We had lunch at the buffet and then took a nice nap.  Two glasses of wine will do that to you.

The afternoon was spent doing cross stitch and reading.  I got a book from the library here on board, Bomb Shell by Catherine Coulter.  I enjoy reading her books.

Will tell about dinner tomorrow.  We are leaving early as everyone is back on board.  Weather tomorrow to be the same.  Ouch.
