We felt we were close enough to the restaurant that we could walk. Turned out that was true but it was a fairly long walk. But we had left the hotel with plenty of time for our walk so we were actually early for our reservations.
We were seated at a nice round table that they had set for just the two of us. The first thing the waiter did was bring a box for me to place my handbag. And then the fun began. Both Bob and I decided to have the table d'hôte which was expensive but you got four courses to taste. Once we ordered, the waiter brought to the table two lollypops of two cheese chips with goat cheese in the middle and then two pieces of crispy prosciutto hung on a line. We did not have a camera so I took the pictures with my cell and will put them on Facebook later.
First course was a lobster cream cappuccino with truffle shavings. You sipped it like you would cappuccino and it was wonderful. Then I ordered the crab dish and Bob got the calamari. His was served in a hot rock dish and was prepared like noodles of calamari. At some point, they brought us a large book that when opened, smoke came out and there was a bite of salmon in a pastry.
To cleanse our palate, a cucumber dish with bubbles. Sort of like eating soap bubbles but not the same taste. Strange. But good.
And then for our main course, we both got the seared scallops. These were served on a mushroom rosotto and was very good. But we were not done yet, as dessert was yet to come.
First they brought us a taste of a chocolate pot covered with sugared nuts, some cookies, and something that I did not taste. At this point of the meal, I was pretty full. And then the real dessert came which was like eggs and bacon only the egg was a white cream around an apricot half to make it look like a sunny side up eggs. And the bacon was a cream covered with a spice to make it brown.
The entire dinner was something out of Top Chef. Smoke, dry ice, etc. A once in a lifetime experience.
As tired as I was, we still walked back to the hotel to walk off some of the calories we had just taken in.
We will remember it as a special evening. And to think I just happened across it while looking at Open Table.
