Alter Do Chao, Brazil

Today is Sunday and we finally made our first stop here in the Amazon.  We did not get here until 3 pm and we are leaving at 7pm.  Alter Do Chao is about 25 miles from the city of Santarem.  This is a small island located on the Rio Tapajos.  There are no excursions and we need to tender so since we are only staying here a short time, we decided to stay on the ship and read.  We have dinner reservations at 7pm with Ray, the cruise director, so we need time to clean up etc.

We were up early this morning and they opened the pool early so we were swimming by 6:45am.  Did one hour and were joined by Bonnie and David.  Then cleaned up and up to La Veranda for Champagne and Caviar.  Only I did not have either one but Bob did.

After breakfast we headed to the Coffee Connection while the cabin was being cleaned and then I headed to the Observation Lounge for the needlepoint gathering.  We do not get to Alter Do Chao until about 3 pm and we need to be back on board by 6:30 pm.  Not a long time but then again, not much to do.

Lunch in La Veranda and then back to cabin to read and nap for Bob.  They are having a difficult time with the docking of the tender so they are only using two tenders and the wait to go ashore is at least one and half hour wait.  We will not go in.

We are having dinner with Ray, cruise director, so we need to clean up and be ready by 7pm.  We stopped in the early shore and it was the female singer and she is terrible.  A very nice young lady but not a good singer so we left and had our cocktails in the Mariner Lounge.  We were the only ones there for quite some time.

Dinner with Ray was wonderful.  He is quite the entertainer.  Two other couples were there with us.  Nancy and Buck from California and Anita and Mike from Virginia.  I had the lamb chops which were very good.  Better than the ones I had in Signatures the other night.   The food in Compass Rose is great.  No need to go to any other place.  That being said, we are eating  in Prime 7 tomorrow night.

After dinner we just returned to the cabin and had our night cap there.  Watched a bit of "The Artist" on the tv but got tired so will see more of it today.  Not sure why it got best picture yet.  Maybe it will get better.
